Another motorcycle ride to DeLand
I enjoyed another bike ride with a couple of friends this past weekend. We took the back roads ending up on 44 going into Deland.
Once there we stopped at a restaurant called The Table. Located downtown on the corner of New York and Woodland. Nice setting and good food.
From there, we rode out east on 44 until we hit 415 to make our way back to Orlando. It’s a nice little ride and downtown DeLand is worth checking out.
On Saturday a car driving north on Stone ran off the road taking out the fire hydrant at the corner of Stone and Pennsylvania before plowing through one of my neighbor’s fences and into their backyard tree. According to the neighbor the driver and passenger were not seriously hurt.
There are now boil water alert signs posted throughout the neighborhood. You can also see the sidewalk collapsed and the huge hole created from the fire hydrant flooding the street.
You can drive by Bill Dreggors Park morning, noon or night and you will witness people walking and running on the concrete walking path that circles the park.
I have spent many an evening walking around this park and calculate the distance to be ½ mile +/-.
It is a great way for area residents to exercise without having to join a local gym.
The Park is named after a local historian and is located just north of New York at the corner of Stone and Wisconsin Streets.
The park offers many other features for young and old including a butterfly park, shelter houses and a childrens playground area.
There are also several Park and Recreational buildings at the Park. It is at one of these buildings where local residents go to cast their votes during election season.
The Bill Dreggors Park is just one of many reasons why those who live in DeLand, love and treasure it so.

Happy New Year! Last night I welcomed the New Year with my granddaughters. To be honest my young ladies actually made it to 9pm. Just before bed the girls enjoyed chocolate cake and we went outside and lit sparklers for the girls to play with. Last night will be remembered as one of the best New Years eve celebrations I have enjoyed. Sounds of bottle rockets and firecrackers could be heard throughout the neighborhood as everyone excitedly anticipated the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010.
Happy new Year DeLand!
I spent part of Saturday enjoying the DeLand chili cook-off. For $10 I was able to sample some of the best and worst chili this side of the St. Johns. I could not pick a winner from the dozen or so samples but did leave the event full. The chili cook-off is another reason DeLand is a great place to call home.
The DeLand high school homecoming parade will be on October 9th from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. The parade will run from Plymouth to Euclid on Woodland Blvd.
